Various aspects of cultivation may influence an organism’s productivity and sensitivity. This research focuses on evaluating the effects of different diets and cultivation media on sensitivity and reproduction of D. similis and D. magna. Diets consisted of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata at 1.5.105 cells.ml–1 and Scenedesmus subspicatus at 106 cells.ml–1. This algae combination was supplemented with a trout or Artemia feed. During twenty one days the mean number of neonates per female were observed daily for each treatment. Simultaneously to this, potassium dichromate sensitivity essays were also performed, according to NBR 12713, for each diet. Results on fertility was not significantly altered while using a diet of P. subcapitata for D. similis and S. subspicatus for D. magna, indicating Artemia feed as an alternative to M4 medium. Regarding sensitivity, every analyzed case showed more resistance to potassium dichromate when cultivated in ISO medium.
